Waiting Well

After half term, we’re launching a new series of events to support those of you with children or young people who are waiting for a formal diagnosis – “Waiting Well Wednesdays”!

These mornings will consist of a workshop from 10am – 12 noon, which you’ll need to book via email .

After the workshop, we’ll be welcoming any of our Parent Carers for general support and drop-in time from 12 until 2pm. There’s no need to book for that – just come along and have a cuppa and a chat.

We’ll have more topics coming up, such as sleep issues, supporting siblings, and needs-led approaches, but the first two workshops we can confirm are:

26th February: An Introduction to Neurodivergent Processing

Workshop with Helen Yates, a Director of BPCF, who was a SEND teacher for 30 years and has a ND child, so she has both lived experience as a Parent Carer and professional expertise of supporting youngsters with a very wide range of additional needs.

It’s an opportunity to find out a little more about how being neurodivergent affects people and how they process information. We’ll look at some of the effects of being neurodivergent and some ideas of how to support our children and young people who are neurodivergent, both in school and at home.

5th March: An Introduction to De-escalation

Workshop with Corinna Wood, who has four children with autism and co-occurring conditions including dyspraxia, dyslexia, demand avoidance, processing disorder and selective mutism. Corinna was a Family Services Manager for over 15 years, working with families where there are children with autism and ADHD. In 2015 she founded Platypus Training to challenge people’s thinking about autism and enable them to gain a new perspective.

De-escalation means using techniques, both verbal and non-verbal, to reduce agitation and avoid violent and aggressive behaviour.

Both events are free, but advance booking is essential, please email . Full details can also be seen on our events page
