Banes Parent Carer Forum was established in September 2021 taking over from Parent Carers Voice who had previously folded.
We were brought together by Contact a Family as we all have children or young people with a variety of disabilities. We felt strongly that as parent carers, we needed to join our experiences and knowledge together and create a unified voice to advocate for change, so that our children and young people can have access to the services and support that they need.
In 2023 Banes Parent Carer Forum became a Community Interest Company (CIC).
We believe that Parent Carers are the experts on their child(ren) and that they should have a say in what happens in the Local area when it comes to strategy, commissioning of services and support, however those voices are often not heard. Our role is to work closely with parent carers through our website, information sessions, social media and events, to take that important information, and work in partnership with the Local Authority and other strategic groups to ensure that they listen and hear what it is really like for families, children and young people, and what change is needed to ensure that there really is an inclusive offer.
who we work with
We are independent from the Local Authority but hosted/supported by Contact a family who are the contracted delivery partner for the DfE in supporting Parent Carer Participation in England. We have also joined the National Network Of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF). The aim of these networks is to ensure that good practice, knowledge and shared expertise about parent participation continues to grow and strengthen, and to develop a cohesive and coherent structure to sustain and develop the effectiveness of parent carer forums across England, individually and as a collective voice.
Our membership is growing rapidly, empowering parents and carers to work alongside us to share their views and experiences to those in the Local Authority services to ensure better outcomes for our children and young people.
We hope you will join us to make a difference, not just for our families now, but so that other parents and carers do not have to fight to get the support that their children need in the future. We want to remind all the Parent Carers that we see you, we hear you and you are amazing. Let’s improve the system, together.
